Uncle Joe and Aunt Angela flew in from Boston to meet Hayley and visit with Grandpa Tommy, Michelle and Jeff! We played some baseball, some cheating card games and more!

Tons of photos from the past four Hayley visits! The big news – Hayley will arrive for good November 3rd!
Photos from our second visit as when we headed up to Yadkinville Saturday for dinner with Hayley, her foster mom and foster sister and then on to watch them cheer at a football game.
Things went great again – five hours long, so we got to see Hayley cheer, play, goof off and even pout a bit! Her foster mom is just wonderful and we are so grateful for the chance to spend time with her. And her foster sister is great too – seems so mature for her age and such a nice kid.
I’ll write more later, I’m dead on my feet tired but I knew everyone wanted to see photos. I’ll post some video later, Hayley even had some fun taking some footage.

Saturday we met our daughter Hayley for the first time.
Our meeting was wonderful and Hayley is amazing – she was so funny and smart. She’s talkative, funny, headstrong and competitive – hmm, sounds like me! And they weren’t kidding about her energy level being high! But that was fun too – she was up for trying anything. I just can’t tell you how great it was – she started a bit nervous but that lasted less than 5 minutes.
She was already calling me mom and Jeff dad but she called him Jeff more, mostly because I called him Jeff. And she really loved playing him. That was most of what I was worried about, how she would respond to him. They got along wonderfully!
She colored some for us, wrote her name in print and script, and could even spell Jeff’s name with some help – she’s definitely not delayed. When I showed her photos of her room, she saw the door sign with her name and exclaimed with great joy it was spelled right! She loves the dogs already and is dying to meet them.
We brought the soccer ball just for fun and she was happy to see it and wanted to play! I want to put her in spring soccer but didn’t know if she had the skills and she does! She was kicking really well and even dribbled some.
Hearing her call me mom really was very emotional. After she left, I had a few tears and Jeff & I shared an emotional moment. You go through this infertility journey and it doesn’t work out, so you start down this adoption path and you just follow along it on faith and hope … and then yesterday, the path ended at Hayley – it was like the pot of gold.
I’m so glad we got the camcorder before this – we taped about 3-4 minutes of it, so we’ll have that on tape forever.

Today August 24th, we received word that we have been selected to adopt a wonderful six year little girl.
So today might be the best day of my life.
As most of you now, we have been trying to adopt a child/children for the past year from foster care – not to mention trying to have child for many years before. Today we were picked for a child that we wanted very badly.
She is six and just amazing – smart, funny and adorable – an angelic ball of energy.
We interviewed for her a few weeks ago and got word today that will be ours.
She will be our first and only child.
We have been so blessed.
UNC Class of 2016 here we come! [ ok, maybe class of VT 2016 to placate Jeff but that will be out of state tuition 🙂 ]

Well, it has been a long two months since I added a ‘wassup’ update. I had my gallbladder out and it has been an up and down deal. I tried to do too much too quick – no shock to many of you. But you would not believe the advances in surgery – just a few years ago this would have been a week in the hospital, six weeks recovering and some ugly scares, instead of one night in the hospital and a few small scars.
Anyone want a townhouse? Please someone buy our townhouse!
The neighborhood is almost done, the last houses on the cul-de-sac are being built now. A lot of mess and clutter but at least it is all at once. And everyone knows a blue porta-john adds to the ambiance – humorously, in the wild wind today it blew over.
UNCbasketball.com is more heavily visited than ever and we recently were recognized by ESPN the Magazine. That was a big thrill and we ran out and bought about 10 of the magazines. We won the online poll too for best site of the ones nominated.
And I can barely keep up with chhsalumni.com! It has really taken off – a lot of classes have us helping keep up with their reunion info – this is a lot of fun.
Jeff has been swamped with the Xmas rush for Jamsport – we sold a lot of stuff lately and he’s been packing and shipping like a fiend.
He is very excited to have Coach Beamer and Michael Vick back for next year. And I’m certainly pleased Beamer stayed, since we might have killed each other if he came to UNC.
I got a promotion as well at work. More work but that’s cool.
Had Turkey day here with my Mom, Step-Dad and Aunt Cathie. Our first real holiday in the new house.

We got married August 8th, 1998 in Chapel Hill at Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church with a reception at the Horace Williams House.
